Cinnamon biscuits


  • 300g plain flour
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 150g soft brown sugar
  • 90g butter
  • 1 egg
  • 50g golden syrup
  • 1 tsp milk (optional)


  1. Preheat oven to 180’C/Gas mark 4
  2. Sift the flour, cinnamon and baking powder into a bowl and stir in the sugar
  3. Cut the butter into cubes and rub these into the flour with your fingertips until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs
  4. Beat the egg, add the golden syrup and beat until smooth
  5. Make a well in the centre of the mixture and add the egg and syrup
  6. Mix the dough to a smooth ball and if it seems to stiff add the milk
  7. Wrap it in clingfilm and chill for 30 minutes
  8. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured board to 5mm thick and cut into shapes with cutters
  9. Transfer onto a baking sheet and bake for about 12 minutes, they will still feel soft but harden upon cooling.
