Jammy buns


  • 225g self-raising flour
  • 110g butter (or margarine)
  • 110g caster sugar
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 12 tsp jam


  1. Preheat oven to 180’C/Gas mark 6
  2. Sieve the flour into a large mixing bowl
  3. Add the butter or margarine (cut into small chunks)
  4. Rub the butter/margarine into the flour with your fingers until it looks like breadcrumbs
  5. Stir in the sugar
  6. Break the egg into a bowl and add the milk
  7. Whisk together
  8. Add the egg and milk mixture into the bowl with the flour, butter/margarine and sugar
  9. Knead the mixture together to make a firm ball
  10. Cut the ball into 12 equal pieces
  11. Put the balls onto a baking sheet (greased) and squash slightly
  12. Make a dent in each ball, filling with a teaspoon of jam
  13. Bake the buns for about 10-12 minutes
  14. Leave to cool before eating (the jam will be really hot).
